Rare Roman Numeral Date MCMXC (1990) Liberty 1/10th Ounce Gold Coin set into 14k Sculptured Pendant

Gem of the Day

  • $899.90

From 1986 until 1991, the United States American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins were minted with Roman Numeral Dates instead of the traditional Arabic Numerals. We think this added a very special dimension and beauty to these coins.  The Walking Lady Liberty image itself is a work of art, but the roman numerals add a hint of mystery to these coins.  These high relief gold bullion coins, with a purity of 91.67% pure gold, are not only a great investment, they are works of art.

In Roman Numerals, the date 1990 is represented by the characters MCMXC and is the shortest, simplest roman date in the series (only 5 characters). Curiously, you'll find many of your friends will be unable to determine the date (but that is another story entirely).  More importantly it was minted in unusually small numbers; only 210,210 were minted in 1990.  Compare that to the 1,344,520 minted in 1998.  The 1990 coin is both unusual and rare.
