Automatic Watches

Mechanical wrist watches were the very first wrist worn timepieces created by master watchmakers nearly 200 years ago.  Mechanical watches are watches that use a mainspring to power the watch and a series of gears which regulate the time and move the hands on the dial of the watch. The finest of these watches use synthetic rubies or other gemstones (called jewels) to reduce wear and friction and increase the accuracy of the timepiece.

An automatic or self-winding watch is a watch in which the mainspring is wound automatically as a result of natural motion of the wearer's arm, to provide energy to run the watch, making manual winding unnecessary.
